Launch of new ‘Personal Wheelchair Budgets’ for Great Yarmouth and Waveney area

Two events are being held to launch Personal Wheelchair Budgets in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area and help wheelchair users understand how changes to funding will improve services for them.

NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group, who commission NHS services, and East Coast Community Healthcare, who deliver the Wheelchair Service, are hosting the events on Tuesday 13th August at East Norfolk Sixth Form College and Wednesday 14th August at Lowestoft Sixth Form College.

Personal Wheelchair Budgets are replacing the current wheelchair voucher scheme. They increase financial flexibility by enabling service users to ‘pool’ NHS funding from a range of health and social care services to access a wider choice of wheelchair. The aim is to give service users and their carers more say in their care and to enable better accommodation of individual needs.

Both events runs from 10.30am to 3pm and are free to attend for wheelchair users, carers or those working in a related service, organisation or charity.

Speakers will explain how the new budgets work and service users will have the chance to meet with wheelchair providers and discuss different types of wheelchair appropriate to their lifestyle. They will also be able to speak with organisations who may be able to help them access additional funding to top up their wheelchair budget.

Both venues are fully accessible and have adult changing facilities with a hoist and changing bench as well as a toilet. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
