ECCH tops national results for staff flu vaccinations

East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) was the highest performing health organisation in the country for staff flu vaccinations this year – and it’s aiming to do the same again this autumn.

In total, 75% of ECCH frontline staff were vaccinated during the 2024/25 NHS vaccination campaign in order to protect themselves and their patients from the potentially deadly virus.

The average uptake for health organisation in the East of England was 40.8% and the national average was 37.5%.

ECCH’s Infection Prevention and Control Team set up ‘flu crews’ across the organisation’s sites in Norfolk and Suffolk to make it easy for staff to drop in for their jabs wherever they were working. They also attended team meetings and publicised their running total via a thermometer graphic in company newsletters so everyone knew how well they were doing on reaching an impressive target.

Now they are gearing up for the next season of vaccinations and are determined to continue their run of success.

ECCH Director of Operations Adele Madin said: “I am delighted that we have achieved this result. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality care possible and that includes knowing our staff are protected from the flu virus and won’t either pass it on to patients or catch it themselves.

“It demonstrates the dedication of our teams to ensuring safety is paramount at all times. It’s also down to the commitment of our Infection Prevention and Control team who do an amazing job encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and educating them on the dangers of contracting flu.”

ECCH is a social enterprise which provides NHS community healthcare in Norfolk and Suffolk, and reinvests any surplus income or resources into the community it serves. Its headquarters is in Lowestoft.
