For Educational staff

If you work with children who have speech, language and communication needs and would like to know more about how to best support them in your setting we provide a wide range of training tailored to your requirements.  This can be for a whole day, a morning or afternoon (for example for In-Service (INSET) training) or twilight sessions.

Courses 

We have a number of courses planned across Norfolk for educational staff (please click on the course title for dates and further details).

Expressive Language Difficulties - this course will allow you to understand the skills involved in speaking and to recognise different types of expressive language difficulties.  It will also provide you with some key strategies and activities to support school age children with these difficulties including how to use word and mind maps.

Difficulty Understanding Language - this course will enable you to recognise when children are struggling to understand spoken language and learn some key strategies to support them.

PECS - the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is used to teach communication skills to those with limited functional speech. You will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, plus attributes through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role play opportunities. You will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to implement PECS with individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities and/or limited communication skills. This workshop is the basic accredited training in PECS and recommended for parents as well as professionals.

Word Aware - Teaching vocabulary across the day, across the curriculum – delivered by the authors; Stephen Parsons and Anna Branagan. Word Aware is a fast-paced, fun and interactive workshop style day, which will leave participants well equipped to start Word Aware in their schools or with individual students. You will leave the day with lots of practical ideas on how to develop vocabulary in your school.

Talk Boost KS1 - is a targeted and evidence-based intervention programme, which supports language delayed children in Reception and Key Stage One (KS1) to make progress with their language and communication skills.

Elklan 5-11s - This is an externally accredited course for those working with children aged 5-11 years. The course uses interactive teaching methods, practical activities, videos and group discussion to engage learners.  It provides information and strategies to develop the communication skills of all children but especially those with speech, language and communication needs.

For Parents/Carers/Families

If your child has speech, language and communication needs and you would like to know more about how best to support them at home we provide a wide range of training and can tailor it to your requirements. This could be on an individual basis or for small groups of parents and families.
