For Educational staff
If you work with children who have speech, language and communication needs and would like to know more about how to best support them in your setting we provide a wide range of training tailored to your requirements. This can be for a whole day, a morning or afternoon (for example for In-Service (INSET) training) or twilight sessions.
We have a number of courses planned across Norfolk for educational staff (please click on the course title for dates and further details).
Expressive Language Difficulties - this course will allow you to understand the skills involved in speaking and to recognise different types of expressive language difficulties. It will also provide you with some key strategies and activities to support school age children with these difficulties including how to use word and mind maps.
Speech Sound Difficulties - this course will enable you to recognise when children are struggling to develop speech sounds and learn some key strategies to support them.
Difficulties Understanding Language - this course will help you to recognise when children are struggling to understand spoken language and learn some key strategies and activities to support them in the classroom.
Early Talk Boost - a targeted intervention aimed at 3-4 year old children with delayed language helping to accelerate children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 6 months, after a nine week intervention.
Talk Boost KS1 - a targeted and evidence-based intervention programme, which supports language delayed children in Reception and Key Stage One (KS1) to make progress with their language and communication skills.
Talk Boost KS2 - a targeted intervention aimed at children 7-10 year old children with delayed language, aiming to accelerate their progress in language and communication.
PECS - the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is used to teach communication skills to those with limited functional speech. You will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, plus attributes through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role play opportunities. You will leave the workshop with an understanding of how to implement PECS with individuals with autism, related developmental disabilities and/or limited communication skills. This workshop is the basic accredited training in PECS and recommended for parents as well as professionals.
