Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to support to you following an acute cardiac event, a planned cardiac balloon/stent or cardiac surgery.

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Team will provide you and your family with the information, support and advice you need to get back to everyday life as quickly as possible. Most importantly, we aim reduce your chances of further heart problems.

Your first contact: You will receive a telephone call within one week of your heart attack, balloon or stent procedure, or two weeks post coronary artery bypass grafts or valve replacement. This call will be to offer initial advice and arrange the date and time for you to attend a clinic appointment.

Clinic appointment: Please bring medication in original boxes and any discharge paperwork. The consultation will last approx. 1 hour.
At your clinic appointment the Cardiac Nurse Specialist will offer advice about your cardiac condition and your medicines. We will be able to offer individual advice about lifestyle to help reduce your chance of further Heart problems.  Clinics are offered at Shrublands Health Centre, Gorleston or Kirkley Mill Health Centre, Lowestoft.

What you can expect from our service:
  • specialist advice and support with lifestyle changes, physical activity and support with emotional wellbeing
  • telephone support and advice
  • a personal and comprehensive individualised assessment of your risk factors associated with heart disease
  • help to identify your needs and choose the best plan of cardiac rehabilitation for you
  • advice and support to set your own goals and make lifestyle changes which will help you

If appropriate, group exercise sessions will be offered to aid your recovery and reduce your risk of a future cardiac event. We try to tailor these to the needs of each individual.
