Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) is a process that allows people to state their wishes about how they would like to be treated in a future medical emergency, if they were unable to make or express choices.
It involves a discussion between the individual and a clinician about the treatments they would or would not want to be considered, the things that are most important to them and any treatments that would not work for them. It also includes a decision on whether the individual would want cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in the event of a cardiac arrest.
Norfolk and Waveney Health and Care Partnership has committed to implement ReSPECT within the area and this will commence from March 2020. Resources and learning materials are being produced and there is information from the national ReSPECT team which can be accessed from this link: https://www.respectprocess.org.uk/
