Safeguarding Adults & Children

SUMMARY

To gain an understanding of what abuse is, how to recognise it and what to do if you have a concern that a child or adult is experiencing or at risk of abuse or harm.

This course is aligned to Working Together (2013) and the Intercollegiate Document (2014) for children and the Bournemouth Competency Frameworks for safeguarding adults. The content enables safeguarding children training to level 2 set out in ‘Working Together’ and the ‘Intercollegiate Document’.

 

COURSE CONTENT
  • Understand the background to child and adult protection and relevant legislation and briefly outline how safeguarding works in Norfolk and Suffolk

  • Be able to define abuse and harm

  • Be able to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse

  • In relation to children, what is meant by ‘significant harm’

  • Who may be an abuser, factors that can lead to abuse and why abuse happens

  • What we can do to lessen the chance of abuse occurring and prevention of abuse

  • Know what to do in cases of suspected abuse, the role of the alerter (confidentiality, secrecy and collusion, reservation of evidence and participants organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures)

  • Have an awareness of professional reporting and local whistle blowing policy

  • Mental capacity principles in relation to safeguarding issues

  • Outline the role of the Care Quality Commission and Disclosure and Barring Service

  • Outline the role and function of the local Safeguarding Boards

 

DETAILS

This three hour in-house training session costs £450 plus VAT for anything up to 15 delegates, each delegate thereafter will cost £40 per person plus VAT.

The costs are inclusive of trainer, travel, equipment, certificates, copy of the signed attendance sheet and any handouts.

The course administrator will be responsible for arranging venue and refreshments.

Open course – to book a place on one of our open courses the cost is £40 plus VAT.
